Until recently, it was rumoured that Blackberry too might jump onto the phablet market, especially after the release of the Blackberry 10 OS. Now though, it seems that the probability of the launching of a tablet is unlikely.
Blackberry is supposed to launch around 2-3 new smart phones this year and some analysts think one of them might be the rumoured phablet. It might be remembered that Blackberry launched its last flagship product the Z10 a few months ago on January 30, 2013. Since then, the z10 has sold more than 1 million units. Now, with Blackberry starting to launch its other new product, the flagship QWERTY Smart phone names the Q10 from April 30 in Canada, it seems that the launch of a new phablet seems unlikely for now.
Blackberry is also reportedly scaling back on the production of the Z10,and with a new quad core processor powered phone soon to be released this year, Blackberry is trying its best to get back onto the smart phone market.
What’s more, it surely isn’t banking on phablets to do it for them. This is why. In a recent interview, CEO Thorsten Heins had this to say “In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore, .Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model.”
So for now, unless there is a change in the business plans of Blackberry, don’t expect to see any phablets.
