Just when you thought the word couldn’t get any more bizarre, a zoo in Egypt has claimed that a baby giraffe did not in fact die due to their own negligence, but instead committed suicide.
In an undeniably heart-breaking tale, officials at Giza Zoo have made the rather unusual claim that the infant giraffe deliberated flung itself into an iron fence on Wednesday to take its own life, after being intimidated by unruly visitors around the enclosure.
A translation of the zoo’s official statement was carried out by the Egypt Independent, which stated that medics did all they could to try and save the youngster, but it died at the scene.
Separate reports have suggested that the giraffe became trapped in the structure of its enclosure and subsequently suffocated, which would amount to negligence of behalf of the zoo’s staff.
An investigation is currently being carried out an official report will be published before the end of the week.
